A guide to headstamps

I based my original identification on your statement in post #1 that the dimensions did not match 7.92x57mm ("...though dimensions are not exactly as those I found on the web") and the fact that it had an FN headstamp.

As the case length does in fact match the 7.92x57mm then I stand corrected and that is what it almost certainly is. The fact that it was made by FN is still in keeping, as FN made millions of rounds of 7.92 on contract for many countries.

thanks anyway Tony. now it's clear about the rounds,unlike about the bolt. when first measuring the round I did not know how accurate the rounds should comply the drawing,the diameter of the bullet is quite difficult to measure due to deterioration

Another one - different time - style
Austro-Hungarian ? 1898
50 mm in length - about same caliber
it is not center-fire ?

First one is a German 7.92x57mm made by Metallwarenfabrik Treuenbritzen G.m.b.H, Werk Sebaldushof, Sebaldushof, (P25). Brass case (S*) made as Lot 1 in 1940.

Second is a 8x50R Mannlicher made by Manfred Weiss (W) in Budapest in May 1898. It was probably a blank as the two stab marks indicate two reloads.

It is about 54mm in length... bullet side is deteriorated.

The first one is probably an 8x56R Mannlicher (also called 8mm Solothurn) introduced in 1930 and used by Austria, Hungary and Bulgaria.

The other two unfired cases are indeed made by Societie Francaise de Munitions and the monogram is made of two "G"s, one reversed, which was the old trademark of Gevelot.

I cannot tell what calibre they are, but if 8x50R or 8x56R then possibly a contract for Austria.

Thank you I was thinking it was Russian or later Yugoslavia - stars and all
I am in Bosnia and Herzegovina - we were occupied by Germans and left for Hungarian and Croatian forces.
