Help!!!
Help!!!
I hope you have put it at the bottom of the garden and called the Police!
And just in case we get any posts saying that you should clean it up and not tell anybody, remember, explosives are temperamental and unstable things, just because it has been in your garden for years doesn't mean it won't go bang! It has been dug up and will now be experiencing different levels of heat an moisture. Place it (carefully) as far away from the nearest buildings and public foot paths that you can (Preferable in a hole if you can quickly dig one or put a couple of sandbags around it). Phone 101 and inform the Police what you have found (A British Mills hand grenade), they will contact EOD who will determine what to do with it - if it is a dud I'm sure they tell you and if ask nicely they might give it back.
Remember - I am not scaremongering, these are designed to kill people and just because it is 100 - 70 years old doesn't mean it won't!
Your lucky the chainsaw didn't set it off. Now go and ring 101, there's a good chap.
'I do not think we can hope for any better thing now.
We shall stick it out to the end, but we are getting weaker of course, and the end cannot be far.
It seems a pity, but I do not think I can write more. R. SCOTT.
