Luftwaffe 20 mm round

This is my newly acquired 20 mm tracer round. It's deactivated, and the phosphorus tracer charge has been removed. It was used in fighters like the Bf 109. I hope that you like it.

Fantastic round Erik, I enjoy seeing any kind of munitions. I like the tapering on the end of the casing, I guess for the feeding system. I haven't seen Herbie the "Love Bug" since I was a kid.

That's a nice 2cm MGFF round- Bf109E, Bf110C, FW190A (outer wing cannon) and some heavy flexible mounts for bombers used these; supereded mostly by the superior 2cm MG151/20 which had a higher muzzle velocity and was belted- the MGFF had just a 50-rd drum magazine usually (although I have seen some rare links for some odd belt-fed version).

Also the projectile doesn't belong to the case- clearly the case has been fired so its original projectile is gone, but you notice where the crimp is on the case- it's rather lower down than the groove on the projectile; that's a 2cm Flak API projectile, not a 2cm MGFF one. So you have a bit from each type of ammunition, not one single one.

Here's an example of an actual Panzergranate of an MGFF round:



Note the groove is down from the driving band and the base is rather short; the Flak rounds have a narrow groove right under the driving band and a long base- since they used a rather longer-burning tracer. The Army Waffenamt stamp on your projectile shows it's Flak too- Luftwaffe ammunition had Luftwaffe acceptance stamps, which look different; you can see one on the base of your case.

Oh and the maker code 'kam' was HASAG Eisen u. Metallwerke GmbH, Werk Skarzysko-Kamienna.
