Need Help to ID 12.8cm 128mm shell casing no marks

Huge unmarked casing. opening apprx 128mm length about 27.25" diameter of base is about 6.25". Need help to id.

The brass casing weighs 15.5lbs

From your measurements & pictures it looks like a US navy 5"/38 Mk 12 casing.

Thanks for the info. I just wonder if it was one used as a pattern or a rejected one. It should be threaded where the primer is.
