No 36 Practice Grenade Car Boot Find

    Default No 36 Practice Grenade Car Boot Find

    Hi all. To be honest, I didnt find this, my dad did (obviously trained him well lol ) and got it for me. It appears to be a No 36 practice grenade. As you can see it is somewhat damaged but I imagine that is due to it being chucked around for training purposes.

    I am a bit puzzled about the base plug. I cannot find anything about it online. I dont think you can see in the pics but all it has on it is N44, so if anyone has any suggestions that would be great. Cheers.

    I just did a google image search for "No.36 Mills Bomb" and found quite a few that match up well with your example...
    Nice item, your dad has a good eye indeed, lol...

    My suggestion would be to put it in a box and address it to me and send via courier, why is it that every time I go to car boots all I ever see is car boots

    Lol. Thanks for the comments guys. Dave, perhaps you dont get there early enough Everytime I go to a car boot I have to force myself to get up at half 4 Pays off sometimes though.

    Yeah. Its had a hard life, but I thought that little bit of blue was a nice touch.

    Here is a before and after pic of the only US practice grenade I have.
    I was surprised how much blue was under the rust.
    I used naval jelly to clean it.

    N44 is the contractor for the base plug or maybe the whole body. The N means Northern and the 44 was the factory and N44 was Mellowes and co. I think they were based in Sheffield and also made Bailey bridges and STEN gun parts.
