I found this today and I have not seen this type before. I realise it is probably post war, assuming the 54 is the date and it is MM RG for Radway Green, though the other mark appears to be a 7. I have seen blanks previously, but they were of the crimped type, so is this a blank or a bird scarer?

    Thanks

7 is the post war method of expressing the 'mark' of 303, more commonly seen as VII in earlier cartridges. When I first saw it it reminded me of a 30cal I once found with a 45cal case jammed over the end. Could it be some kind of trench art, possibly in the midst of being turned into a lighter ?

    An unusual cartridge indeed !

Thanks Steve. It certainly had me confused and it came from a disturbed area within the trench I am digging.
