Most definitely NOT blanks, Pete!
These are short range practice and will do you serious damage if hit at short range if mistaken for blanks. They are coloured blue because that is the NATO standard for practice ammo. When fired the proj breaks off at the neck and they are pretty accurate out to 100 metres. They are also made in 7.62x51mm, 50 BRG and other calibres.

Thanks Tony,I have edited my post so it`s now correct.....Pete.
JEDEM DAS SEINE
Correct. In Denmark we also used them in .50 cal. Blanks are red plastic.

So what are the white ones used for?
JEDEM DAS SEINE
Those are the original short range rounds produced by DAG. It was only later that they adopted the blue colour to identify them more easily as prctice rounds.

Yes. Thanks Tony. I was completely "blank" on the white ones. We also had some red blanks for the M1 Garand and blue short range. The H&K G3 used brass blanks and also the blue ones for short distances. We used them when training not far from populated areas shooting card board targets in the forest, reducing safety distance.

Here`s a pic of some 7.62x51 blanks, they are khaki colored.

Funny looking bunch. I will guess they are from the Netherlands?
