Pinfire 16 Wien

I have pinfire casing bottom part marked
top L.M. & Co.
in middle 16
bottom Wien

It is thin metal casing about 6mm in heigth
19 mm

Can someone please explain what kind of gun is it for
and what time period is it ?

Pinfire guns were mostly European made and produced around
the 1880's. They weren't in use for long.........

Austro-Hungary has been here in that time ... until end of WWI.
Such a large caliber and such a thin layer of metal to support it.
It is thinner than shotgun casing.

Can you post a picture of it,it sounds like you might have the base part of a 16 gauge pinfire shotgun shell.

I would say that is a 16 gauge for sure.....Pete.

I agree with Pete, it is the base of a 16 bore shotgun cartridge, not a pistol round.

The large pinfire pistol cartridges were usually 15mm.

Still it is pinfire type of catridge. Just for shotgun.
Pinfire is dated from 1850-1870.
