Yours helped me make the decision to buy my own. Mine isn’t as splendid-looking as yours, but it’s still an SC 50!

Easier to store without the fins, certainly!

What sort of condition was yours in before the restoration?

White phosphorus burns at 5,000 degrees Fahrenheit which would completely melt both the glass bottles and the bomb casing. So I bet yours was a dud. And thank goodness it was both for the folks on the receiving end and for us today so we can ogle at the real thing.

I have heard stories of the ferocity of white phosphorus before. A warden attempting to extinguish a smaller incendiary bomb placed his steel helmet over it in an attempt to smother it, only to have it melt straight through it.

If it's the case that this one failed to ignite, I do wonder where the contents went. Emptied out by whoever found it, presumably? That might also explain the missing tail fin. It would have to have been removed for the finder to be able to empty it, assuming it wasn't already broken off on impact.

If you have a little lawn in front of your house, having that half buried and poking through the grass would guarantee to excite the neighbours.
