A nice early 18 Pr. Mark I, even if cut down. Filled once in November 1913, but the interesting thing is the Canadian government mark. I don't think there were any Canadians at Gallipoli.

Hi Tony, regarding canadian mark, my thoughts are that, having read elsewhere, early in the war there was a big demand for military equipment and supplies. The canadian procurement and supply system ie can.ordnance corps and army service corps tried to meet that demand and depots were set up in canada and england to call on supplies of british stores. This pre war marked case was probably one of these and gained canadian marks. Canada was supplied with 18pdrs pre war. Also inside of case has an ASC button. As to canadians at gallipoli the newfoundland regt arrived at suvla bay 19/9/15 and were among the last troops to leave. As newfounland was at the time regarded as a british dominion dependency it was still seen as canadian. Glad you liked the case. All the best Willie.
