Could it possibly be 57th Coastal Artillery Regiment? I notice that this regiment fought in the St. Mihiel and Argonne. Could they have supported the Marines or do they have an anchor as their symbol?
NEVER 'clean' anything; removing patina ruins the value of things- carefully removing dirt or grease is one thing, but never, ever take patina off. Not unless you're one who just likes things to be shiny and doesn't care what it's worth (because you'll be halving that by 'cleaning' it LOL)
