What is this ammo

What is the one on the left.The one from the right is Lebel.It was found in Meuse Argonne ww1 Battlefield.They are not the same .

The French had two models of semi-auto rifles which used the Lebel cartridge,your cartridge looks like it was fired in one of these which didn`t lock up and blew the case out.Just my guess,I have an example of a 30-06 case like this in my collection.

The cartridge is alot bigger than the Lebel cartridges that I have,Also the cartridge does not get smaller at the top of it like it does with the Lebel.

wide=1/2 inch
top=1/2 inch
I see what you are saying about the cartridge .I just do not see this being the case with this item.But I could be wrong ,I also ask other people that collect ww1 stuff ,they say it was older than ww1 but that was all.So any help you can give me would be great.
