Who fired these?

Article about: I apologize if this is not the correct section, but here's my question... These were brought back from Europe several weeks ago by a friend. I was told that they were found around the Dunkir

    They are both 8mm but very different,the Lebel on the left has a bullet of .327 diameter opposed to the Mauser which has a bullet of .323 diameter,the reason there are different markings on the French projectiles is that they were made in different arsenals at different dates.....Pete.

    Can you recommend a source (online or printed) for the identification of projectiles, preferably something that would have the meanings of the relevant abbreviations?

    French bullets for lebel in WW1 was whole made from brass...if you cut one on half you can see if is WW1 or WW2 where they use also lead....
