Article about: Hi, I recently came into possession of my Grandads WW2 shell his father bought back from Europe. I have no idea of what type it is or if its even safe. Any help would be great, mostly I want

    I recently came into possession of my Grandads WW2 shell his father bought back from Europe. I have no idea of what type it is or if its even safe. Any help would be great, mostly I want to know if it's safe.

    It's a 25 Pounder Smoke projectile and it is empty. Someone has removed the smoke canisters because it has not been fired.

    Hi
    is 25-pdr smoke Mk 1D (Fuze No 221)
    in my area (italy) sometimes you find some when are working the land and they are always empty back
    But ours are fired, your no
    I do not know how the detonator

    Yes very safe unless it falls of the table onto your foot!

    As it hasn't been "fired" (driving band is smooth) then is generally more valuable than a "fired" one (driving band has rifling marks)- looks like it would clean up very nicely.
