    Default Another bootsale Bayo!

    Hi guys,picked this beauty up yesterday at the sales.Lee Enfield 1917 maker marked Charman?,not seen one with this maker,is it the 1907 pattern?.Also wondering if someones touched up the paint work at all?.Overall its a cracking bayo to my collection,looks virtually unused/issued?,has a leather sheath.Can anyone tell me about all the markings on it please?. Many thanks as always

    Nice bayonet!!!
    It was made in August 1917.
    The maker is CHAPMAN (J. Chapman).

    Thanks for the link Ingrid!,just about sums it all up in one go!. I`m just wondering if it ever taken into theatre as it seems virtually new,the pictures dont actually do it the full justice it deserves,unissued maybe?

    No,of course it was issued,i think its because i`ve never held one in this good a condition it has me amazed

    Thank you cornishboy! It wasnted particularaly cheap for a carboot but well worth getting up 8am on a sunday for!

    The bayonet has has the scabbard fittings painted, but these are normally blued. Perhaps done after it was down graded to "Drill purpose" useage as evidenced by the markings to the crossguard?
    The blade has also been cleaned of the blued finish.

    ahh i see...thanks Ade,yes i thought the scabbard was recent(ish) paint job,now you mention blued,it almost has a slight affect in certain lights.Thank you guys for your help,hope you enjoyed it

    By the end of the World War I the following is total production digits for the P07 bayonet:

    Wilkinson Sword Co. (WILKINSON) - 2,360,000
    Sanderson Bros. & Neubold (SANDERSON) - 1,600,000
    R.S.A.F. Enfield (EDF / ENFIELD) - 500,000
    James A Chapman Ltd (JAC / CHAPMAN) - 300,000
    Remington Arms (REMINGTON) - 100,000
    Robert Mole & Son (MOLE) - 60,000
    Vickers Ltd (VICKERS) - 10,000
