    Default Bayonet Identification Help Request

    Hi guys

Perhaps you can help me, I have trying (so far unsuccessfully) to identify a bayonet that I have had in my possession for some time now. I did try the Imperial War Museum and the National Army Museum but they were unable to help at all.

I have attached some pictures and the dimensions are as follows

Overall length of bayonet – 370mm
    Length of blade – 245mm
Width of blade (at widest) – 23.5mm
Diameter of fixing eyelet – 15mm
Overall length of scabbard – 270mm

Any help or info would be greatly appreciated, thanks

Hi, Its a Siamese Mauser bayonet, made by the Japanese for the army of Siam (Thailand) dates from around 1903, it fits the Siamese version of the G98 Mauser I beleive, I have one in my collection also.

After a bit more research these bayonets fit the Siamese Type 45 Rifle which although based on the Mauser action was not identical, so these bayonets may not fit the German Mauser's.

I have in fact tried mine on an Argentinian Mauser and it was a reluctant tight fit, I did'nt force it on though.
