Article about: Hello. I have this bayonet. Am I correct that it is a French Chassepot sword bayonet? Numbers are matching but from my quick research on the internet, where the year should be engraved it is

    Hello. I have this bayonet. Am I correct that it is a French Chassepot sword bayonet? Numbers are matching but from my quick research on the internet, where the year should be engraved it is instead worn down and cannot be seen. Thanks for any help you can provide!

    Looks to me to be a French M1866 Chassepot Yataghan from my reference

    Rene is correct - You can find these with markings into the 1870's.
    Good to have the scabbard matching. Nice piece..........
