    Hello, all!

I found this bayonet at an antique mall. The vendor had it marked at $50, but I was able to talk him down to $15 because it was cut down and is missing the scabbard and frog.

First, who got the better deal?!

Second, I bought this bayonet because I thought it would fit my 1932 Beretta Gardone Carcano Mod. 91/28 Moschetto T.S. rifle that my gf got me for valentines day. After cleaning out the portion that mates with the bayonet lug and applying some oil with a q-tip, this bayonet still wont fit on my rifle!

Is this actually a Carcano bayonet? Is there another type of bayonet that I should be looking for to fit my new rifle?

This is the only set of markings that I can find on the bayonet:

Thanks for your time and consideration!

it used to be 1891 but someone cut it down. What is the problem in finding any bayo in US? GIZMO8Z you have them all over there, trust me! I'm currently looking for a firend in US who would help me to get some bayos from there

What is your rifle , again? 1932? You probably need type 1938 bayo.

    But I'm not sure

Darn it... looks like getting a bayonet will end up being more expensive than the rifle itself!

There are 3 types of those, you are probably talking about the folding one it can hit up to $200-250. But I'm sure usual fixed blade ones are cheap.

Any idea how much the bayonet I currently have is worth?

How can I help you get your hands on some bayonets...?

Joe, your bayonet was cut-down and made into a fighting knife.

$15 was a really great buy. If the vendor had known this,
he probably would have stuck to $50.........!
    Regards,

    Steve.

I may try to sell this off in order to afford a bayonet that will fit my new rifle. Thanks for the responses, everyone!

Usually when a bayo is altered to a trench knife, the muzzle ring and cross guard are removed or reduced to make it handier and less prone to catch on equipment-the older pattern brass/leather scabbards were also easily shortened to a new length-the lack of a scabbard would affect the value substantially.

PS the bayo for your rifle is not the 'butter knife' folding/non folding type-the M38 short rifle and its bayo wasn't introduced until 1938 as the designation implies.
