Interesting, any marks on the blade?
Hello
no mark on blade ?
Looks like shortened sword, the grips are horn? interesting piece, maybe a rework for a rifle? How much is the inner muzzle diameter?
Hello

Hello, the rifle was probably in 11mm caliber so pre 1886, it looks like french made? similar is ended the Lebel M86/90 bayonet but the crossguard is really large.
Maybe the crossguard quillon was cut off ?
Reminds me a little on the crossguard of the turkish 1874 short, the diameter of the muzzle ring of this turkish bayonet is also 18mm.
Maybe Didiers bayonet fits on any rifle of the system Peabody Martini ? ...
P.S.:
Also the French used such rifles.
Peabody & Martini
Could it be a civilian hunting bayonet ?
There are numerous examples in Le Nouvel Atlas de la Baionette de Collection by Jean Pierre Vial.
Many are identified as being French although there are also some from Germany and other countries.
Some made from military bayonet blades such as the Mle 1866 Chassepot.
I'll have another look through the books to see if I can find anything more definite.

Richie
