I have an Antique Knife in my possession.

I have and Antique Knife in my possession. It has been in the Family for 60 years.
I was told it is Japanese. Also told it is Chinese.
Unknown to me.

It is approximate 6 inch long.

I have attached photos.

Can you give me any info on it???

Well if i was to be mystical about this i would be inclined to say that its a ceremonial hari kari knife but i dare say im wrong

The blade is Japanese but no temper line. The scabbard and handle are unusual in the fact that they are carved wood.
I cannot date the blade with the pictures shown but the mounts are attractive.

Yeah, I am beginning to think it is a hara kari knife....I hope it has not been used...

My friend (he is Asian, and studies Asian history) is 99% sure it is a hara kari knife...and that it is old, but authenticity is in question...and neither him nor I know how to judge.
