Eric, you are correct. I think the blue paint might be a more recent
addition from sometime after it was in use though.........

after WW1, about 600000 Lebel bayonet were sold to Poland
do you have a stamp like this ?

Many possible routes for a Lebel bayo to find it's way to Poland including German captured French stocks from WW1 or 2-the bayo also fits the Mannlicher Berthier long rifles as well as the original Lebel type.
I checked again, no markings of any sort that I can see. Thanks for the tip.
