Hi SRB,
How long is the blade? Any pictures of the end of the scabbard? The Germans modified these to the following specifications:
Blade length: 342mm
Bayonet overall length: 460mm
Scabbard length: 362mm
The known German examples appear to have a bayonet tip that has a more pronounced, pointier tip. The end of the scabbards were modified/shortened to accommodate the shorter blade length and the tipped with a domed end secured by a rivet.
I've heard that the French shortened the bayonet blades for the Mle.1886/M.93/R35 carbines to 400mm, but I have not heard any confirmation of this.
Best,
Pat
its 460mm
In 1935 a final modification was made .... bayonets by cutting the blades down to about 460mm and adapting the scabbards to this new length. The new pattern would be called Mle.1886-35.
and germans also shortening this bayonets.
but dont know who make my bayonet.
im find this typ make in usa...
Hello,
the german modification in fact has often shorter blades than the regulation rules...between 310mm and 340 mm also existed min. 4 new scabbard ends / caps. There were in the white or blued.
The Épée Baïonnette Modèle 1886 / C 35 or Épée Baïonnette Modèle 1886 / 15 / C 35 has a blade lengt of 400mm by a total length of 518 mm. There were shorted since 1936.
The metalparts of the bayonet were parkerized / phosphated in a dark grey colour. The scabbard was blued and often painted black.
Here is a real Épée Baïonnette Modèle 1886 / C 35:
