Mauser Bayonet marked 44

Article about: I got this recently and noticed it's marked '44' and had Russian writing above it. Could it be a ww2 Czech made Bayonet? I have the whole set w/ frog, scabbard and cleaning kit. Thanks. ~Dean

Not Czech, and not in my primary area(s) - I believe that it is Yugoslavian. And the Cyrillic writing might translate to something like "Factory (#) 44". But that is just what I seem to recall at the moment. FP

It is for the Yugoslavian M48 Mauser.

For me it seems like serbian writing and it's quite like to be for the serbian mauser !

Frogprince is absolutely correct: M48 bayonet, Serbian writing says "Factory 44" made for Yugoslavian Mauser rifle 1948.

The grooves on the grips are a craft job.

I suspect he means that it is a non standard modification. The original bayonet had plain grips.

This is a normal Yugoslavian M48 Bayonet - has a label - Preduzeće 44 - Factory 44, produced in Kragujevac.
    Produced in 1949. - 1965.
Handles are original (someone was banging on them), but the whole bayo is in poor condition.)
