My Grandfather gave my father this bayonet many years ago and now my father gave it to me. My Grandfather was a navigator in WWII in the B-17's. He was shot down over Romania and was a POW for 6 months. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

It's a std WW2 German K98 combat bayonet - made by E & F Horster in 1941. Nice bayo. Is the scabbard matching (same serial no and makers details)?

Yes the scabbard s/n#'s match the bayonet. Any advice on pricing this piece?

Condition seems to be excellent. Matching numbers and an original frog
    are a good thing.

Is that the Vet's name inscribed on the flashguard ? This may be
a factor somewhat, when pricing. I've seen sets such as this
selling for around $150 to $200, perhaps more............

I wouldn't sell a piece like that for less than $285.00.
There is a real craze out there for matching numbers, and the prices have gone through the roof in the last 10-15yrs.
Strictly my opinion, of course. Thanks for sharing that one!

As said, must be mint/excellent to command such high prices.

They are not hard to find in any shape, but overall condition
will play an important part in the rising costs these days,
although 'auction hysteria' and dealer mark-up
    have a great effect too......

    Steve.
