A couple of weeks ago I was having a look around a local market in Earlstown - Lancashire. I was almost to the last stall, when I spotted a P1907 bayonet for sale. I picked it up and had a look. The blade was in fine condition, and the date was 11 '14. No re-issue dates on it, and hilt marked to 3rd Battalion Welch Fusiliers. Almost all the original finish is on the metalwork. Serial number on the bayonet matches that of the scabbard - which is also in fine condition.

Although I am no expert on bayonets, I was fairly sure this was one of the modified byonets which had the quillion removed. Also, there is no oil-hole in the hilt. I tried to knock the seller down a bit, but he wasn't for budging on his price. In the end, because of the condition, I reluctantly decided to snatch his hand off and pay him the £45.

Beautiful bayonet. I have not seen one in this condition for quite a while.
    Most I find today are beat/abused - and over $100 - which I refuse
to pay. Used to buy them for $5.........
