Yes but the majority of nonbarelled german bayonets have a long 4cm Mauser adapter,which is prepared for attaching a bayonet wout barell ring on crossguard, a Gew.88 dont have this system, so it could be not proper fixed on rifle wout the barell ring.other point this is a capture French Chassepot M1866 could be used as Sidearm. b.r.Andy

Question is here, when was cut the halfring?? same period as pommel upgrade?, probably not, possible the nr.3 bayonet (even2) was used with unknown rifle for a time, later with removing of half ring it was made to a sidearm, You could proof it on rifle, anyway the weightpoint of bayonet is far away from handle,as here is a large long heavy yataghan blade and the adapter is too short made a good fixing on a rifle(note the weaking of spine material of brass handle in pommel area) You should compare the Rudiger german literature, where are described the conversion of french bayonets to german rifles.Nr1 and 4 from right could be still declared as bayonets used on rifles, even here changed grips and crossguards. b.r.Andy
