My guess, due to the construction of the scabbard (i.e. angled belt mount) is the knife is Italian in origin, but I am unfamiliar with its nomenclature/designation or period of use/manufacture.

I agree with Lance. Looks Italian (handle and cross guard) however I have never seen a scabbard like this. Will check mine out for comparison.
