Article about: Hi, Today i was offered a U.S, M1 long bayonet, the blade is the 16" one. I know these a hard to come by as most were cut down to the 10" blade, in 1942, It has no scabbard but the

    Hi,
    Today i was offered a U.S, M1 long bayonet, the blade is the 16" one.
    I know these a hard to come by as most were cut down to the 10"
    blade, in 1942, It has no scabbard but the bayonet is in good condition. I would like to know the value of it, i dont want to pay to much.

    Dave I was at a show a couple weeks ago and they had them for sale for around $150.00 US no scabbard. 250 -300 with scabbard. Gary

    Hi Gary,
    thanks for that info i was offered it today the guy doesnt know what type it is, and offered it very cheap £20.00. so i think i will have that one, He just said it was an old U.S, bayonet it,s a type of junk shop i found. Thanks nice one.

    Hi Dave, that is a very good price for today.

    Back in the very early 1980's when I collected US kit, a good clean M1 Bayonet was about £15 to £20 max. Cut down ones were always less sought after. The early long (un cut) bayonets always commanded more money going for about £25. While a mint WW1 Springfield bayonet and M1910 scabbard was £30. I used to have examples of all of these. Long gone now.

    Thanks for the info so it sounds a good buy, i will go and get it as
    i read the uncut ones are hard to come by now. Perhaps i can pick up a scabbard later.
