6 Aussie Helmets Found in Barn

Article about: These 6 old Aussie helmets had been sitting in a barn since WW2. Condition varies, but I am very happy with them. Amazing what people kept after the war, in this case for no apparent reason.

Now that would be a neat trick. I doubt there are 6 in the whole of Australia.

You can trace the owners of the RAAF helmets via the Nominal Roll using the service numbers-perhaps they were the owners of the farm or the helmets were intended as cheap safety helmets for stump blasting etc.

Great find, 75591 belonged to George Bubbers a leading aircraftman. 82375, James Kieran.
    Are they all RAAF?

Thank you for the info. A few of them have faint numbers written in pencil, I will see what I can find out. Quite possible they are all RAAF.

Nice to see the two types of liner crown, I haven't seen the padded type before, only the cross type

I remember seeing people who would use this type of surplus helmets on their farms. They would mount them on the top of each of the posts that their chicken coops were sitting on-it was to keep the rats from getting into the coops. Perhaps the farmer had this in mind but never got around to doing it. A nice find, in any case! Aussie helmets are very seldom seen here in the States.
