It seems that these reconditioning were a fairly common practice, for comparison I add two photos of this other example, that I had posted time ago, in this case it was used a dark green paint, and the particular thing, is not a matt paint.
I have found it on the desk of a flea market not far from my house.
For the fact that it is a local find and the particular color used also it made me consider two more possibilities:
That we can deal with a helmet used by the RAAF during the Italian Campaign, or a helmet used by the reconstituted Italian Army of the South Kingdom, in the last phase of the WW2 some units were aggregated to the 8th Army and re-equipped with British uniforms; I am sure they used British and South African helmets coming by North African warehouses, it could be possible that they also used some batch of Australian helmets but for now I'm not sure and I'm trying documentation.
