Bakelite MkII

A MkII made of Bakelite for use on the home front which would have been purchased on your local high street. There's no label on the inside so do not know the maker but it differs from Plastfort in that it has a thinner rim.
The liner is dated 1940 & made by VERO & is in mint condition, a piece of paper from the drappers record was tucked up inside the liner.

At first glance this Bakerlite helmet looks the same as the other one, but apart from the Bakelite shell being the same it is quite different.
The rivet for the chin strap is not on the rim but higher up, no nut & bolt as it doesn't have an Mk2 liner, but a rubber sorbo liner.
The chin strap is made of leather on this one, all in all, making for cheaper & simpler methods of manufacture.

Nice helmet Aaron - I have one of these and I've always been surprised at the quality of the finish on the rim edge and that strange little fake-bolt (?) depression in the crown...why bother with that? The literature is sweet....

Thanks, that thin rim makes it look more like an Steel helmet, rather than the thick rim normally associated with bakerlite helmets.
