British MK IV Turtle Helmet

Picked this up last night. My first British helmet.

Stampings on it are really light so was hoping you all could shed a little light on it.

Looks like it spent the last 50 years in a bard. but it cleaned up really well.

Liner is marked BMB 111 1945

Shell is what appears to be BMB, size 67. there is also the letter "M" followed by what may be a "4". But I can find no date like others I have seen on the forum.

Post war? Or WWII?

The mkiv helmet was introduced in the late months of WW2, they were used i believe until the 70s, when replaced by the mkv (effectively the same helmet but a different liner and chinstrap) they did not size stamp the helmets they were a standard size and the liners would be a specific size to the wearer. The 67 may possibly be a date or lot number, BMB is Briggs Motor Bodies, the chinstrap looks to be ww2 pattern although khaki ones were used post war, the paint look to be a dark brown which would match ww2 as post war they were usually black. I would not have a problem with adding it to my WW2 collection.

So on the shelf it goes....instead in the "post war" closet...now just to find the space...

It has a good chance of being 45 dated, I bet the date is around there somewhere, probably to the right or under the BMB. Try & have another look in bright light.

After cleaning and a little wipe down from a sponge I still couldn't see anything but will check again when I return.
