    Default Early magnetic MKI Brodie

Just added this one to my WW1 Brodie collection. It is an early, magnetic, MKI made by J&J Maxfield + sons (M) with steel supplied by Edgar Allen + co (A) . It probably dates from 1916 ( no rubber doughnut ) , and is particularly nice because it still retains the original paper instruction label, and has a very clear "Allen's Imperial" trade made stamp in the rim. It is rare to find trade marks in Brodies. The "Imperial" mark is the mark for "Bullet Resisting" steel. Hope you like it.

Nice lid! Cool to see the TM stamp, I've never heard of them before.

I thought that only the early rimless war office pattern helmets were magnetic - I didn't realize that the later types had some batches of magnetic steel too.

I don't think the magnetic/non-magnetic issue was a big deal. The mild steel/hardened steel issue was much more important. Only the early batches were mild steel. A type of hardened steel eventually became the standard and it just happened to be non-magnetic. All German helmets were magnetic by virtue of the different steel they used.

And here is another early, magnetic MKI. This one has the MYRRYS trade mark. Interestingly the paper label reads " Adjust Net and Tighten Cord to Fit Head" instead of the usual "Tighten Cord and Adjust Net to Fit Head"
