    Hmm very nasty, you'd think this guy would leave his Civil War relatives were they belong, in the grave yard.
    Seriously though its it an old carved wooden Side show bust ? from a house of horrors or turn of the last century freak show?

    I think you are right Nige H,
    An old friend used to make and/or restore fairground decorations, galloping horses etc. This looks very much like one of the 'ghost train' display pieces he used to carve.
