Question Help needed to ID Tommy.

    Hii Guys,

This is my latest purchase, I purchased it thinking,it was a Mk2, but on arrival , i'm not so sure it is a Mk 2.

    The markings are not MK2 ( ML8? 3? )

The chinstrap bales are not like Mk2's. Held on with what look's like bent split pins, my father in law said it's South African??

The finish is ,what i can only describe as a fine sandpaper finish.

Oh yeah.. and someone can painted Lt mellor on the front ( in a rather tasteful white gloss), which is about as much use as a choclolate teapot, in ID'ing this lid!

Over to you guys, any ideas.....?????????

Oh ,and a stupid question should i remove the name or leave it?
    Cheers

Hi, It looks like a WW1 helmet, a Mk1 i suppose, as for the name on the helmet, it looks like it has been there a long time. So i would leave it be.

The name is likely to have been added later... probably by a child who was given the helmet after the war

the condition of your shell isnt really worth restoring, the seam appears rusted and broken, and it doesnt have any special markings like division markings, etc

the liner plus shipping will cost much more than the value of your shell

probably best just to leave it as is and hang it on the wall or shelf

    Hi Mate,
Yeah the seam is completely trashed in places, and you are right about the shipping etc, i only paid £12.00 for the lid, not financially viable that's for sure...
Thanks for the info all the same.

    Cheers
