mmm...ok maybe use chalk this might highlight the marking's if any, this will not damage the paint finish.

Hi,

Sometimes you find with these lids, there is a lot of paint on them, if you scratch about a bit on the inside of the rear of the lid, just below the rim, you should see a makers mark e.g. ROC and a date
maybe 1952, good luck mate..let us know how you get on!

Hello Gaz,just cleaned a lot of dust and if you know where to look it is easier to find.PO&CO OW 4_1953
The helmet dictionary does not mention those intials,do you know what they stand for ?

No sorry mate, i've had a look around various websites, and nothing has come up trumps....but one of the other members might know...i'm glad you found a date though, i am always relieved when i can safely date a lid..so i can imagine you must have been too...i have checked all mine and they are all ROC , must have been a common manafacturer ....

Hi Patrick, I would suggest you might have mis-read the first initial? I think you will find it is not a "P" but is actually an "R".

The maker will be Rubery Owen & Co Ltd.. These are a known maker of these helmets.

Hello Ade, just been to the garage for my Black & Decker sander and 2 minutes hard work on the paint proves you right,it is an R.
(just joking about the sander,a good rub to de-dust and a damp cloth over the writing did it).

Hi Mate,

Black and Decker sander.......are you mad....

I would use an Industrial angle angle grinder, or if that did'nt work ..maybe Nuke the sucker , that would find any marking's...
no actually no scrub that ...stick with the chalk ..work's every time!!!
