M1917- M41 transition

Can anyone tell me when the US transitioned from the Doughboy type helmet during WWII?? Also did they use the rear seam on the M1 during WWII or were they post war?

I am pretty sure that when the M1 was adopted in 1941, they began to phase out the M1917 as soon as possible. However it was a process that took time and the M1 itself went through many changes from 1941-1945.

The seam switched to the rear of the helmet beginning in October of 1944. If you find a rear seam helmet with a cork finish, khaki chinstrap, and a tan-colored liner suspension, it's from WWII.

Thanks for the info. I have an M1 rear seam I'll have to look at it again it could be WWII, I know it is cork finished I'll post some pictures when [I] get back home.
