They, like the East Kents museum, don't have much of a clue when it comes to Battalion sized unit badges/markings unfortunately.
I guess the net & Mk3 chin strap was added when it arrived in Sicily/Italy with the 231st Malta brigade. I bet most Malta camo's were repainted over when they arrived back in the UK ready for the invasion of Normandy in June 1944.
Great helmet, off to Malta in a couple of weeks

Try the car boot sale at Birgu ,early Sunday morning,and while you.re there visit the Malta at war Museum ,and please don't drool over the helmets as they might rust
