Lovely Mate I had to drag my one in my hand luggage from ZA!!
Is this a reused WWI shell? If not then it is not a MKI* as that only refers to great war shells refurbed for WWII use as far as I understand the nomenclature.
Either way, it is a stunning looking SA lid.
You seem to be on a roll with picking up very nice Commonwealth lids.

Jerry
Whatever its just an opinion.
Zuid Afrika
Youre right Jerry on both accounts it is a MK1, with a 1942 liner
A nice clean example of a S.A Mk2.
Agree with Aaron.
This will explain why :
Mk2 South African Union Defence Force.
Thanks guys, the thing that threw me is the lack of any helmet stamping and the chinstrap lugs with split pins..If someone could edit the title of the thread to MK2, that would be great
Nice helmet!
here is an example very similar to yours, it has a 1943 dated liner:
South African Mk2 (1943)
Regard
Roberto
