    Indeed, a mutual friend has told me that a lot more than 5,000 were produced/issued.....the Navy and the Army had some......

    Sadly I don’t know about what variants within Marks there were......

    BUT it’s still a great piece and one I’d gladly have in my collection...

    I noticed the ball joint on mine where the arm fits to the bracket, on the helmet, is slightly different to a lot of others.
    Being a later date, less metal has been used.

    There could well be intra-Mark, manufacturer-specific variants...there often is....

    That one being 1940 has two sides enclosing the ball joint.
    There is a patent number just viable.
