Mk2 Gas Identification Officer

A yellow painted with in black GI to front & rear Mk2 for a Gas Idenctification officer, which would have been part of the gas identification service. The person chosen to be a GI would have been from science teachers, pharmacists & the like, & would have been part time & unpaid. Once an a gas attack had been spotted more than likely by the local warden the GI would have been sent to confirm, & then give advice on how best to deal it. Luckily never to have been used.
The helmet was made by BMB, date probably under the chin strap lug, liner is a BMB & dated 1940, it also has an ink stamp on the canvas padding inside which is probably a quality control stamp.

I'm not sure about the paint being gas reactive, probably not.

saw a similar coloured helmet for sale at war and peace last year and hadnt a clue what the colour was all about ,neither had the seller,you learn something every day and today iit is that I should have taken a chance and bought this unusual helmet

cant remember now ,but I managed to spend the money on other things anyway so its one to look out for in the future
