Default MkII helmet with mystery flash

Heres my latest MKII.The shell is a 1940 dated Joseph Sankey(JSS) and the liner is 1938 dated VERO.I like the perforated liner, never seen this before...It looks to be all original.
If anybody knows what the flash is on the front please tell me!

No clue on the flash, but I like the liner! Certainly an interesting feature.

A good lid with an interesting liner, good to see the flash you were asking about, RE as Rob posted. Armoured engineers used a similar formation patch colour scheme of red/blue/red/blue/red.

It's the standard RE hat flash. Just for reference, here it is as illustrated in John Waring's Pamphlet No 1:

Interesting how someone has added all those holes for ventilation on the liner, & that the RE flash is on the front too & not on the side. Certainly one I'd love to have, well done.

Just a thought, is there any chance that the flash is on the front because it belonged to an officer?Surely there was regulations regarding the placement of signs on helmets?i:e on the side for other ranks and front for higher ranks?

The Royal Canadian Engineers also used a similar flash with an extra thin blue line in the middle.
