Well done you guys. Looks like a great reference book for collectors.
Well done you guys. Looks like a great reference book for collectors.
Congratulations! Can't wait to get a copy. You must be happy and relieved in equal measure.
....and back in the room.......
You don't see too many of these....a 2" striped Rescue lid. Clerk of Works, Depot Foreman blah blah..... Shell stamp is too weak to read, VERO liner etc etc
...but a TWO INCH STRIPE ON A RESCUE HELMET?!!!! you'll all remember where you were when you saw this......a pick-up from this years War and Peace Show
....it's so special there isn't one in that new book that just came out.........errrrr.....doh!
Now coming 2021
“ Helmets of the Home Front 2 / the Extra helmets edition “
A great follow up sequel you have potential for there mate!
I picked up a couple of what appeared to be strange shaped MkII clones at W&P. This first one has a reduced brim but looks like it once had a rim piece on it
This second one seems to have a flat brim (see profile shot)...it has a crudely joined rim piece
...I'm assuming they're relic commercial variants from WW2 made for the public...the sort that appear in that recently-launched stunning reference book, "Helmets of the Home Front"
The strap retainers aren't standard...but could I really have the first two Brodie prototypes ever made?....and for £15?!!
I can't find any markings except for what looks like "Brodie No 1 prototype"......but that might just be a rust spot....
...please.....
ha ha....it's interesting how many online venders claim to have it for sale......there's only TWO (other than me) who have (diminishing) stocks so I'd LOVE to know who's doubling up with those books. Of course...there were Rescue PARTIES, Repair PARTIES, First Aid PARTIES etc.....so.........
's'funny what you learn.....I had no experience of the Book trade 'till now......requests for 30%-70% margins and then they start discounting to out-sell each other!!!!!....
...there's still some left having sold nearly half the stock in the first 4 weeks......but, when they're gone, they're gone.....so technically it's already "out of print"......just sayin'.......all those folk thinking about that VERY special book for Christmas ought to BUY NOW!! :-)
Edit Note - it's been pointed out to me that this Post comes across as unabashed and blatant SALES, adding nothing regarding MkII helmets...........no sh*t Sherlock!!!!!
You can please some people some of the time...
This is the first book ever devoted to ww2 British helmets with so much information, it should be screamed from the roof tops.
These same people will be moaning they can't find one in years to come, and will be cherished by those who have one.
Well done you.
I totally agree, if people can't see the difference between touting a bit of militaria for sale and promoting reference book written by a contributing member then something is off. I'm sure the financial reward here is minimal, and with a limited market, people that take the time to put books of this quality together should be encouraged. The buyer has a much higher return on their investment in this case for sure.
Hi friends, hope eveyone is well... just thought i would quickly post couplle of images of a mk2 i picked up this weekend. Nothing special, but i think nice original set with 1942 TTC liner and 42 stamped chin strap lugs... i just wondered if it was desert cammo, what do you think? Seems a lot more tan compared to my other army lids?
Thanks as ever, Shaun
