Hi Jerry, nice helmet that certainly throws up a few questions as i too have never seen a black over painted NFS. But now we have one what's the betting another will turn up! Leon.

Maybe un-numbered NFS helmets were for headquaters staff, & ones without the NFS decal were people who worked for the NFS but were not firemen?
Or there was a shortage of the decals at that time when they were issued with their helmets.

I was going to add that recently I had seen one with just the number and no NFS. Perhaps between us we can compile a dossier of variations, of decals, placement, combinations, paint colours etc.....
