New Zealand Mk 11

Hello, my name is mark, this is my first post, on this forum.

i have an example of a New Zealand MK 11 helmet
It is brown in colour, and has an Australian MK 1 liner and chinstrap.

The shell is stamped CS 21043
Of Special note is, the crudely made chinstrap lugs, with no date or makers name.

I have been able to collect 5 examples of nPz helmets, their are 3 different types of chinstrap rivets.
* Steel Round Flat
* Brass Domed
* Bras Domed with flat end

Thank you for posting this helmet. How did you determine that it's a New Zealand rather than Australian helmet? Both had Commonwealth Steel bodies, so the usual way of determing that a helmet came from NZ are the NPZ-marked Mk.II lugs, while these are Mk.IIIs.

Hello Roger,
how i determined this was a New Zealand helmet rather than Australian.
i have 2 NZ helmets with very close CS steel lot numbers,
the one i posted with steel lot number 21043, and another with steel lot number 21047
both have the same flat steel chinstrap rivet, i have not seen this used on any Australian helmets.
colour and paint texture is not seen on australian helmets.

Hi Mark,
Thought you might like to see these photos.
They are of Workers in Auckland putting the liners into Commonwealth Steel Helmets imported from Australia.
I cant remember the date now but maybe the liner type is also a clue to identifying NZ MkIIs at that time,pity you cant see the chin stap lugs in the photos.
Who knows one of these could be yours.

Congratulations Mark, I have been searching for npz marked helmet for so many years, and here you came saying you have 5 !!! I'm envious :-)
Interesting your way of determing an unmarked NZ lid by the batch numbers and the rivets, its a never ending learning curve on our beloved helmets.
