Gents , hope all is well , apologies if in wrong section .

for something a little different , posting on behalf of an elderly gentleman .

I am of the opinion this would be called trench art , made on-ship by soldier perhaps ,
made in the style of the Pig Face helmet , dare I say crudely done compared with modern replicas , has some age to it ,

has HMS Albatross ID plate riveted on front section .

It's a fairly well made replica of a 15th century bascinet helmet. I would think with the HMS Albatross plate riveted on that your suggestion of origin is correct. A hobby project by some crewman to show off his sheet metal working skills.

Very interesting! Does it have a liner or appear it once had one? I wonder if it was designed to wear or simply display. Looks like it may have had chain-mail attached to the rear at one point.

Perhaps the fact the ID tag has 'HMS' and not 'HMAS' possibly indicates it was made in the period 1938-1945 during service in the Royal Navy.

I could imagine it being worn during a line-crossing ceremony by a 'guard'.
