Trying to ID a matched set of Brodie helmets

Hi All,

New to the forum, have a friend that brought these to me yesterday looking for help IDing them. He inherited them from his father.

They are Brodies, but there are some oddities that make me question authenticity and whether WWI or WWII. Specifically
- The helmet strap holders are mounted opposite of all pictures we can find.
- The liner is not common to any pictures we have seen.
- They are painted gold, it appears that undercoats were gold also, though there's a chance of British style green way under there.
- The rim is folded over, and there is no connector at the top, both pointing toward American.
- They were drilled in the front for attachment of unit badge (presumably) but our references say that the US never allowed that. Could have been post-use, but they're centered well.
- The biggest questionable bit... No metal maker marks or other stamps of any kind that we can find - though we don't want to damage the paint job looking.
- Though other things point to American manufacture, the rivets are split.

Now the interesting part...
Inside one of them, written on the leather is the name of a man. The name is unique, so we researched it, and there are only two showing up in US service... One was in the 17th division in WWI, the other was an officer in the 82nd in WWII.






We're trying to figure out (a) Are they authentic and (b) if so are they US or British, WWI or WWII, and finally, (c) if there's a way to authenticate which of these gentlemen might have worn the helmet.

As an inheritance, he doesn't want to sell them, but wants to understand what he has.

Replaced chinstrap and liner. Liner has been set with rivits through the helmet body.
Probably used by some veterans group.
