Default US Field Service Adrian Helmet WWI

Well, after months of waiting it has finally arrived. My WWI US Field Service Adrian Helmet.

One of my bucket list items!! I have never seen another in person.

This one is in excellent condition given its 100 year old age. While missing the chin strap the leather liner is in fantastic condition and still flexible. Two small dents in the shell which I don't mind at all.

It is dome stamped "56" however not sure what this indicates.

The AFS were volunteer ambulance drivers recruited from the Ivy League colleges prior to the US entering the war. I could be wrong but I do not think there were more than 2,500 member.

Would love to hear your feedback or corrections to my facts!

    Regards,

    Michael

    Very nice lid !

'56' is likely the European size number.........

That is a great, and hard to get helmet. Congratulations
The 56 is the helmet size in cm. The liner probably has stamps on the underneath, but I would leave the drawstring tied up.
This link will give you some more info on the manufcature of the Adrian helemt and stamps,

    Thanks Tinhat!

I've been waiting for ages for this to arrive and pretty excited. Haven't found another on WRF but may not have searched correctly.

Thanks for the fantastic link!!!! It appears to be a Dupeyron manufactured helmet but I will spend more time over the coming days to be sure.

And yes, not touching the drawstring.

    Nice helmet indeed!
Note the liner isn't French made. Maybe US?

    Piotrek,

Yes, but it is extremely old and appears original but not sure of the origin. There are few pictures of this helmet to compare to and the ones I have seen are only of the outside.

    Any thoughts anyone?

As noted this is one of my favorite helmets and from what I have read extremely rare.

Was just wondering if anyone else has one of these? This is the only one I've ever seen in person so was hoping to see other examples.....if you have one please post it here.

    Thanks!

    Thanks Mark.

I purchased this through a friend/dealer. I will ask him the providence. I am pretty sure he picked it up at a garage sale so any providence it may have had would be lost unfortunately.

Hopefully someone else has one here and can opine. In the end, I am not overly hopeful given the rarity of this helmet.

If my research so far is correct, and there were only ~2,500 US volunteers that were issued a helmet like this, I would doubt there would be more than a fraction of this number left in the world.....

I know Bugme has one, so I'd start by shooting him a message
