US M1938 Tankers Helmet + Insignia

Hi all,
I've just closed a deal on a M38 tanker helmet, and some insignia, supposedly belonging to the same tanker as the helmet. It's just a helmet, sans radio equipment.

Here's a picture, if anyone can ID the insignia, I'd be grateful.




The package is currently being shipped, and I should have it on my doorstep in a week or two.

The blue and red insignia remind me of Italian collar tabs...

We may have a winner here; the seller is in Italy; so it's possible. Did the Italians use M38s post war per chance?

I don't know for sure, but I do know that the Italian military made use of M1 Carbines and Garands. I don't see why they wouldn't or couldn't of used m38 tanker lids!

Not a problem in my mind as Mutual Defence Assistance Programme supplies were sent to Italy post war.

I appreciate the info gentlemen. Post-war issue or not, I had to get my hands on one of these, just because of their rather unique design.

I'll see what I can dig up on their Italian service.

It is wartime kit, but possibly supplied to Italy post war.

Italy, as noted above received large amounts of surplus US equipment (not just smallarms)-all the late war US armoured vehicles ended up in service there.
