This helmet I recently acquired. It is to my mind a Westinghouse P55 (it might have been repainted by the Dutch).

It is marked W an D35. Supposedly it was used by the Dutch defence Forces.

    My questions are:
Does the Westinghouse code indicate a production period?
Are the rather bulbous rivets common?

    I would appreciate your input.

    Cheers,
    Emile

    Hello Nick,

It's a P55. Which stands for a liner made in the fifties, definitely not WW2.

I need more info on these post war liners.

    Thanks for your reaction.

    Cheers,
    Emile

pretty sure the liner its self is of WW2 manufacture post war Westinghouse liners normally also have the CAPAC stamp &/or the MICARTA stamp.

WW2liners have the insignia eyelet, this one does not. Th eyelet was dicontinued around the mid fifties. You can add an eyelet, but you can not fill up the hole, I think.

The marking amazes me. Normally the dual capac, the micarta and the one with US etc is encountered.

What can be said about this one?

    Cheers,
    Emile

it has been known in some cases for the eyelet to be missed during manufacture but they still get through QC & used so it could be a WW2 liner that's just had that bit missed ?

Possible, but not very likely. Seeing the double nape strap and the absence of the eyelet, it is probable that it's provenance is post war.

But of course I am not sure of this!

but the webbing is not original US webbing so the adjustable nape means nothing other countries also used this type of nape strap but i believe all the webbing in this liner is repro the liner may have been rebuilt for reenactment.
